Welcome to Cedar Bayou Junior School!

At Cedar Bayou Junior School, we believe that "I can...I will" is the blueprint for success. Take a look around our campus, and you'll see that our students, faculty, and staff members are committed to excellence in every venture.

Our mission and goals...

The total focus of Cedar Bayou Junior School is the fundamental concept that all students should be taught, guided, and nurtured in an atmosphere of commitment and acceptance. The collaborative efforts of all staff members should be directed to promoting full-range development of academic skills and individual growth. Each student should be taught, encouraged, and sponsored in an educational environment that will lead to a realization of personal and academic goals while fostering a sense of responsibility in private and public behavior.

The following are our campus goals and some of the strategies we will use to attain them:

  • Reduce failure rate—incentives and tutorials
  • Raise TAKS scores in reading, writing, math—mandatory tutorials; campus bus for transportation; technology training for teachers; computer lab for increasing math skills; student incentives; reading of literature; increase in PTSO membership; inservice training
  • Implement campus technology program--every 7th grader becomes computer literate in basic applications--with opportunities using PowerPoint, Internet, research, etc.
  • Increase the number of students participating in the Duke Talent Search.

Through the International Speakers Program, Exxon provides presentations on several cultures. In addition, Exxon's Incentive Program provides numerous student awards throughout the year, handles reproduction of the school newsletter twice each semester, and produces all certificates for rewarding student achievement.
  • U.I.L. Academics Competition
  • Principal's Award Program—Special awards are presented to students who bring positive recognition to themselves and Cedar Bayou Junior School.
  • PTSO and Parent Volunteer Program— This program is extremely successful, with parents volunteering their time to decorate for special programs, sell T-shirts, sponsor the eighth-grade play day and dance, provide student and teacher incentives, and more.
  • Clubs and Organizations—There's never a dull moment at Cedar Bayou, where organizations such as Crime Stoppers, National Junior Honor Society, Chess Club, Bear Book (Reading) Club and the Christian Student Union keep students busy!
