Twenty-seven
Goose Creek CISD seventh graders recently qualified for state recognition
in the Duke University Talent Identification Program after earning
high scores on the Scholastic Aptitude Test.
Cedar Bayou Junior School Colton Kolaja also qualified for grand
recognition, ranking in the top 2 percent of all Talent Search participants.
To qualify for grand recognition, students must score 650 or higher
on the math and/or verbal portions of the test, which is typically
taken by college-bound high school students prior to college entry.
Students may also qualify for national recognition with a combined
math and verbal score of 1260 or higher.
To qualify for state recognition, students must score 510 or higher
on the math and/or verbal portions of the SAT or have scores of
500 or higher on both tests. Students who earn state recognition
are in the top 25 percent of all Talent Search participants.
In addition to Colton, GCCISD’s state honorees include David
Harding, Rodolfo Hernandez, Jayson Lindley, and Ashley Montgomery
of Baytown Junior School and Amy Epperson, Stefhani Fernandez, Tara
Kennedy, Alfredo Lugo, Timothy Mahaffey and John Sherry from Cedar
Bayou Junior School.
The list of honorees also includes Horace Mann Junior School student
BrittanySherrill; Highlands Junior School students Jasmine Cossio,
Christian Elizondo, Ryan Fugere, Matthew Melendez, Jacob Miller,
Leslie Thibodeaux, Jr., Daniel Wilson and Taylor Zink; and Gentry
Junior School students Alicia Hollaway, David Matthew, Elida Ramirez,
Shannon Sartor, Paige Scheu, Logan Shannon, and Tannya Singh.
