Vaughn, Albright selected District
Teachers of the Year

Tim Vaughn, choir director at Ross S. Sterling
High School, was selected as Goose Creek CISD’s 2005 Secondary
Teacher of the Year, and Patti Albright, fifth-grade teacher at
Lorenzo De Zavala Elementary School, was chosen as 2005 District
Elementary Teacher of the Year.
Vaughn, Albright, and Campus Teacher of the Year honorees were
recognized at the annual “Salute to the Stars” celebration
on May 18 at Robert E. Lee High School.
The district winners were selected by a district-wide vote of
teachers after being selected as Teachers of the Year at their
respective campuses.
Campus Teachers of the Year at the elementary level include Ruth
Woodall, Alamo; Mary Page, Ashbel Smith; Wendy Magness, Stephen
F. Austin; Charlotte Laughlin, Bowie; Ali Huntington, Carver;
Steven Horelica, Crockett; Susan Battle, Highlands; Mindi Garzoria,
Hopper; Diana Garey, Harlem; Susan Hillin, Lamar; Linda Butcher,
Lamar; Norma Garcia, San Jacinto; and Barbara Eubank, Travis.
Campus Teachers of the Year at the secondary level are Wilda Neal,
Baytown Junior School; Marie Drewnowski, Cedar Bayou Junior School;
JoBeth Bacon, Highlands Junior School; Sherry Smith, Gentry Junior
School; Cathy Nevil, Horace Mann Junior School; Criss Dippel,
Robert E. Lee High School; Cathy Slay, Alternative Learning Program;
Gayla Townsend, School Community Guidance Center; and Steve Barron,
Stuart Career Center.
Melissa Marr, life skills teacher at Cedar Bayou Junior School,
is the winner of the James Becker Thomson Award for special education
excellence.
Representatives from the campuses of the District Teachers of
the Year paid tribute to them during the event. Entertainment
was provided by the Lee High School Choir, under the direction
of Theresa Cronin.
