Goose
Creek CISD recently named members of three rezoning committees
to help make recommendations to the Board of Trustees concerning
future GCCISD attendance zones.
Committee members
were selected from 151 applicants by members of the GCCISD Membership
Design Committee, which included the committee facilitators—Bill
Ehlig, elementary; Gilbert Santana, junior high; and Mike Shields,
high school. Work will begin this summer, with no rezoning
changes to take effect until the 2003-04 school year.
In determining
the make-up of the rezoning committees, the Membership Design
Committee sought to appoint members representing each school and
a wide range of neighborhoods and areas. GCCISD representatives
will serve as ex-officio (non-voting) members of the committees.
Elementary
committee members and the schools/communities they represent are
Sheila Baker, Harlem/McNair; Michelle Bitterly, Alamo/Holloway;
Diane Blankenship, Pumphrey/Country Club Oaks; Marie Bobalik,
Highlands Elementary/Highland Woods; Martha Contreras, De Zavala/Goose
Creek; Tammy Ford, Austin/Whispering Pines; Marilyn Hunt, Hopper
Primary/Meadowlake Village; Lily Lord, Travis/Lakewood; Olivia
Maldonado, San Jacinto/Old Baytown; Angela O’Quinn, Ashbel Smith/Glen
Arbor; Priscilla Pena, Crockett/area near Sterling High School;
Sharron Sims, Bowie/Milby Dale; Yanda Stevens, Lamar/Goose Creek;
and Darrell Westerman, Carver/Forest Gate.
The elementary
committee will also include at-large members Jennifer Herbert,
Marsha A. Johnson and Virginia Ramirez as well as Martha Eppler,
representing the GCCISD Employees Advisory Council and Janie Pequeno
of the Instructional Leadership Council.
Junior school
rezoning committee members and the schools/communities they represent
include Leah Daugherty, Gentry/Lantern Park; Donald Dunn, Highlands
Junior/Highlands Woods; Carol Hare, Baytown Junior/Lakewood; Gena
Hutto, Baytown Junior/Lakewood; Lynda Kilgore, Cedar Bayou/Eva
Maude; Kelly Leavins, Gentry/Abbe Addition; Mary McGee, Horace
Mann/Briar Creek; Billie Richardson, Highlands Junior/Orchard
Acres; Louise St. Ange, Horace Mann/Whiting Survey; and Randall
Strong, Cedar Bayou/Whispering Pines.
Also serving
on the junior school rezoning committee are at-large members Imelda
Palomo and Lynette Thibodeaux, Kenneth Mayo of the Employees Advisory
Council and Verlene Masters of the Instructional Leadership Council.
Serving on
the high school rezoning committee are Lee representatives Laura
Acosta, representing Chaparral; Leslie Alford, Eva Maude; Mary
Bagwell, Lakewood; Larry Brennan, Eva Maude; Doroteo Cantu III,
Southwest; Pat Cauley, Lakewood; Allene DonCarlos, Plumwood/Eva
Maude; Edgar “Punchy” Riley, Lakewood; Gary Spence, Lakewood;
and Martin Yepez, Southwest Addition. Sterling representatives
include Deborah Carruthers, Eastpoint; Mark DeHoyos, Meadowlake
Village; Kathryn Dunlop, Highlands; Timothy Edwards, Highlands;
Robert Hoskins, Terra Del Oro; Cynthia Kimmey, Sjolander Road;
Libbie Richard, Lincoln Cedars; Gloria Skelton, Whispering Pines;
Karen Smith, Pinehurst; and Valerie Toney, Pinehurst.
At-large members
of the high school rezoning committee are Sharon Gray Guillory,
Alfred Lopez, Jr., Hector Meza, Tracey Wheeler-Martinez and Ray
Wilson. Michelle McCoy represents the Employees Advisory
Council, and Karen Swart represents the Instructional Leadership
Council.
The high school
rezoning committee will hold its first meeting at 6:30 p.m. June
17 in the Green Center Conference Room, 607 W. Baker Rd.
On June 25, demographer Dr. Pat Guseman will provide to the district
an update on her demographic study of the Baytown/Highlands area.
