Career and technical education (CTE) is based on the premise that rigorous academic foundation contributes to success in school and in life, that all students should be provided equal opportunities to succeed, and that career and technology education should complement and enhance academic preparation by enabling students to apply academic principles to a variety of community and career situations. It is important to recognize the vital need for all Texas students to possess strong academic and technical skills.

1. Managing the dual roles of family member and wage earner; and

2. Gaining entry-level employment in a high-skill, high-wage job or continuing the student’s education at the post secondary level.
