College Access Support Services

Goose Creek CISD is committed to all of its students, from their first day of school through high school graduation.  In addition, GCCISD has made another commitment to prepare all students for life after they have received their diploma. GCCISD’s vision is to create a supportive community environment that helps ensure that each student is prepared for and understands how he or she can access postsecondary education, and that all students access and complete postsecondary education.

Summer and Fall 2009 Dual Enrollment

The Partnership

Lee College and GCCISD are committed to providing the best educational opportunities for students in the Baytown/Highlands area. Therefore, these two institutions have created a partnership which will give GCCISD students the opportunity to get ahead in college.  This progressive approach will allow students to save time and money as they pursue their educational and career goals.

What is Dual Enrollment?

Dual Enrollment is a program that allows high school students to begin their college education prior to graduation.  Students are able to enroll in approved college courses, and upon completion, students will receive college credit and fulfill high school graduation requirements.

Why should I take advantage of this opportunity?

·         Dual Enrollment students receive a head start on college and degree completion

·         Half-price Tuition!!  Students can take two courses for the price of one

·         Courses are typically transferable to area institutions, especially Texas colleges and universities

·         Students could graduate with 24 or more college credit hours

How do I know if I am eligible?

·         Student must be a high school junior or senior

·         10th or 11th Grade ELA TAKS score of 2200+ with a 3+ on Writing

·         Workforce education dual credit courses require a 10th or 11th Grade TAKS ELA score of 2100+

·         If TAKS requirements are not met, students may take the Accuplacer placement test to determine eligibility

When and where are college courses available?

High school students may register for classes after regular school hours during the fall and spring semesters.  Only 12th grade students are able to enroll in college courses during filler periods, which occur during the school day.  Most college courses will be offered at Lee College’s campus or online with other college students. Other courses may be held on your high school campus with only high school students.
