Sue Chatham named as
principal of Elementary #14

Sue Chatham, principal of David Crockett Elementary School, was named as principal of Goose Creek CISD’s new Elementary #14 at the Jan. 22 meeting of the GCCISD Board of Trustees.

Chatham, who has been principal at Crockett for the past five years, previously served as Crockett’s assistant principal from 1996 to 2002. Under her leadership, the campus was named a National Blue Ribbon School in 2003.

Chatham earned her associate degree from Lee College and completed her bachelor’s degree in elementary education and health/physical education at Texas A & M University.  She completed her master’s degree in mid-management at the University of Houston-Clear Lake.

Chatham began her career in Snook ISD, where she taught and coordinated the migrant program for grades kindergarten through eight.  She joined Goose Creek CISD in 1976 as a teacher at Harlem Elementary School, where she taught grades three, four and five for the next three years.

During the 1981-82 school year, Chatham taught second grade at Crosby Elementary School.  She returned to Goose Creek in 1985, where she taught grades one, two and four over the next 11 years.

According to Dr. Toby York, deputy superintendent for personnel and student services, the principal position at Crockett will be posted by Jan. 24 and will be advertised for three weeks.   Chatham will remain at Crockett until her replacement is found.

A letter from Chatham to parents of Crockett Elementary students will be sent home with students today.

Elementary #14 is the first additional school to open in Goose Creek since De Zavala Elementary School was built in 1992.    Elementary #14, which is located at Garth Road and Seabird Street, is scheduled to open with the start of the 2007-08 school year.
