College financial aid
workshops set for Lee, Sterling
Lee College Connection will host financial aid workshops at both GCCISD high school campuses. Workshops will be held at Lee High School on April 23 and May 7 and 21 and at Sterling High School on April 30
and May 14 and 28.
Sessions will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Locations are room 202 at Lee and room 239 at Sterling.
Parents must attend and bring their completed 2007 tax returns. The workshop is designed for those who do not have access to the Internet or would like assistance while completing the TAFSA form, but the students and parents are encouraged to complete the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
According to LeRonda Smith, GCCISD higher education transition liaison, many families do not apply for financial due to the misconception that financial aid is only provided to low-income students. As a result, students miss opportunities to receive various types of aid including scholarships, grants, and extremely low interest loans.
Therefore, it is imperative that each college bound senior complete the FAFSA, Smith said. To receive financial aid for fall 2008, graduating seniors and their parents should complete the FAFSA as soon as possible.
