Transportation
Procedures
In
the event of a disaster or emergency, the Superintendent, acting
under Board authority, may close the schools and arrange for transportation
for bus students. Schools will be advised by the Superintendent’s
Office about transportation options. Such options include the
following:
-
Immediate
closure of specified schools and transportation of the students
either to their homes or to alternate locations;
-
Placement
of school buses at predetermined schools in readiness to transport
students should the situation require;
-
Detainment
of students at schools and provision of shelter at the schools;
and/or
-
Acceleration
of regular transportation schedule (run the regular routes,
but ahead of schedule with no deviations)
Evacuation Procedures
-
In
the case of hazardous materials incident or natural disaster,
students will be transported by bus to alternative sites.
-
If
students need to be evacuated before buses can arrive, students
will walk quickly to the evacuation sites, away from danger.
-
Buses will meet
students/staff at predetermined site(s).
Alternate School Locations
In
the event of an emergency situation, students will be moved to
an alternate site if it is too dangerous for them to remain at
their school. If a large portion of the district is affected by
a disaster, other sites may need to be considered.
The
following is a list of the alternate sites to which students will
be moved:
Baytown
Junior School
Gentry
Junior School
Highlands
Elementary School
Horace
Mann Junior School
General
Emergency Procedures
-
Notify
campus personnel immediately through written communication.
This should include:
-
Facts
of the crisis, location of the crisis center
-
Where
to send students if need arises
-
A
brief review/reminder to teachers relating how to handle students
in a crisis
-
An
emphasis that principal will provide all information related
to the crisis status.
- Accompany
victims to hospital, if required; notify next of kin, if appropriate.
An orange trauma bag is located in each nurse’s office for additional
support.
- Direct appropriate
staff to gather information and secure belongings of student/staff
involved.
- Determine if
class or work hours should be changed.
- Allow students
needing to remove themselves from classroom (with teacher’s
permission and a pass) to report to the counselor’s office.
(All faculty will keep the halls clear and direct students to
appropriate areas.)
Note:
Students will be placed in groups according to their emotional
needs and assigned to a counselor. Counselors will counsel students
in an area predetermined by the principal.Students who feel that
they can return to class will be encouraged to do so.

Students
too emotionally stressed to remain at school will be permitted
to call their parents. If they decide to go home, the counselor
will talk to the parents to ensure that students will not
be alone. (Parents picking up their children should be informed
where the students will be waiting.)
-
Parents
will be informed of the support services to help in their
decision of whether to allow their children to go home.
-
Students
leaving to go home will register on the sign-out sheet.
-
All
incident reports should be completed by the following day
and sent to the Office of School Administration.
The
above will be followed for all the below emergencies, which are
divided into three categories:
-
Violent
Situations;
-
Natural
Disasters; and
-
Other
Emergencies.
