What is Workers Compensation?
Workers Compensation is a state-regulated insurance program that pays for on the job injures and provides four types of benefits. They are
| Medical benefits pays for necessary medical care. |
| Death benefits replaces a portion of lost family income for eligible family members of workers killed on the job. |
Workers compensation will replace 70% or 75% of an employee's lost wages, depending on hourly rate, if the injury or illness causes the employee to lose some or all income for more than seven days. An employee becomes eligible for Temporary Income Benefits on the eighth day.
An employee injured in the scope of their job, will have sick days deducted for each day out. After using their sick days the employee can use vacation days to continue receiving a Goose Creek check if they chose. All employees can receive Workers Compensation checks at the same they receive Goose Creek checks if they have sick or vacation time.
An injured worker may not receive benefits if:
| Injury occurred while the worker was intoxicated. |
