Introduction for Goose Creek Playground Safety

Although teachers and Aids are not trained playground inspectors, they should visually inspect the Goose Creek CISD school playgrounds for safety problems. If you have a safety concern, please call Risk Management at (281) 420-4838.

Below are seven points to remember when supervising Goose Creek CISD children on playgrounds.

  7. Be Prepared

Stay Alert

Move in the playground area, stationary persons only help children nearest to them.
Do not use playground time as a time for talking with other adults or doing paperwork.
Observe all children and secret places they could hide.
children can wander into hazardous situations in less than a minute. 

Be Aware of Age Appropriate Equipment

All playground equipment is not appropriate for all ages. 

Evaluate Playground Equipment

Watch for foreign objects such as glass, nails, and aluminum pop tops that are hard to see.

Look for hazards like loose or protruding nuts or bolts, broken parts, exposed concrete, and protective bark which is shallow.

If you spot broken equipment, or inadequate surfacing material, contact principal or Risk Management.

Playground equipment that is a safety issue should be closed off until repair or made.

Watch children's clothing for loose items which may catch on playground equipment. 

Observe

Keep an eye on unsafe behavior.

Know Safe Playground Rules

Teach children the safety rules on the playground.

Remind children that they are never to leave the playground area without permission from a supervising adult.

Instruct children to keep their hands to themselves.

Enforce rules firmly and consistently.

Be Prepared

Keep a first aid kit stocked and easily available.
