Parent Involvement Policy

Our Philosophy: The philosophy of the district embraces the provision of a quality, comprehensive educational program that meets the needs of all students. The social, emotional, physical, and academic needs of students must be met in order to appropriately serve the "whole" child.

Statement of Purpose: Goose Creek CISD is committed to promoting parental involvement by providing opportunities for parents to participate in regular, meaningful communication involving student academic learning and school activities.

To be in compliance with No Child Left Behind, each school district receiving Title I funds jointly develops a written parent involvement policy with parents. This policy establishes the district's expectations for parental involvement.

The District will:
  1. Include parents on the district's Title I Planning Team to involve them in the joint development of the Title I plan and the process of school review and improvement which is distributed to parents.
  2. Ensure that Title I schools fulfill the parental involvement and parent notification requirements of the No Child Left Behind legislation by designating and expending Title I funds for parental involvement activities.
  3. Provide staff development at the school and district levels to coordinate, technically assist, and support faculty and staff in planning and implementing effective parental involvement activities to improve student academic achievement and school performance.
  4. Assist schools in the coordination and integration of Title I parent involvement with programs such as Head Start, state-run programs, and other early childhood development programs to better prepare students for school.
  5. Conduct a district-wide Title I Parent Involvement Survey for the annual evaluation of the content and effectiveness of the parental involvement policy for determining its effectiveness for increasing parent participation by:
    • identifying barriers to participating in Title I parental involvement activities with particular attention to parents for economically disadvantaged, disabled, have limited English proficiency, have limited literacy, or are of any racial or ethnic minority background
    • using the findings of the survey to design strategies for more effective parental involvement
    • revising parent involvement policy or procedures as necessary
  6. Ensure that Title I schools provide written documents related to school and parent programs, meetings, and other activities in a format and language parents can understand. Oral translations for Title I information is provided to parents as requested.
