Robert E. Lee High School is pleased to announce that it has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for 2017 - 2019. The Apple Distinguished School designation is reserved for programs that meet criteria for innovation, leadership, and educational excellence as well as demonstrate a clear vision of exemplary learning environments.

One of the most fulfilling accomplishments that our teachers have engaged in is becoming an Apple Distinguished School,” said Dr. Joe Farnsworth. “I am amazed at the level of professionalism and instructional acumen that our staff has exhibited these past several years. It is no accident that Lee High School has earned the status of four distinctions from the Texas Education Agency and is once again being recognized by Apple as a distinguished high school. Our teachers are equipped to use iPads to boost instruction in the classroom at the right time, with the right focus for the right information. These teachers are working miracles in the classroom daily. I love being a part of the Lee Family.” 

The selection of Robert E. Lee High School as an Apple Distinguished School highlights the school’s success as an innovative and compelling learning environment that engages students and provides tangible evidence of academic accomplishment. At Robert E. Lee High School, the iPad has allowed teachers to facilitate the design of an engaging curriculum. Students have used iPad to create stop motion videos, collect research data and collaborate on projects. Using apps, such as iMovie, Desmos, Google Classroom and Stop Motion Studio, teachers reach students in new ways.

Teachers at Lee High School have begun to implement project-based learning as a way of assessing student knowledge and understanding in STEM classes where students are able to apply solutions to real-world problems using the Desmos graphing calculator to recreate a piece of artwork with only graphs of functions and plotted points. Google Classroom also has been used by Lauren Hoyt to complete an AVID-based Socratic Seminar virtually with her students. At Robert E. Lee High School, technology has been seamlessly integrated across all content areas for all grade levels.

Robert E. Lee High School opened its doors to students from Goose Creek, Baytown and Pelly in September 1928. The traditions of the Gander mascot, the school colors of maroon and white, and the saying, “Once a Gander, Always a Gander,” have continued through the years, and as of April 27, 2013, a historical marker, sponsored by the Baytown Historical Preservation Association, has stood in front of the school. Located near the banks of Goose Creek in Baytown, Lee serves more than 1500 students. Goose Creek CISD and Lee High School received “Met Standard” ratings, the highest ratings possible from the Texas Education Agency for 2017, and the school earned four Distinction Designations for Academic Achievement in Math, Academic Achievement in Science, Top 25% Student Progress and Top 25% Closing Performance Gaps, more than any GCCISD high school.
