Following the Citizens Bond Oversight Committee (CBOC) meeting, Goose Creek CISD hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Goose Creek CISD Education Service Center at 2610 N. Alexander. Dr. Randal O’Brien, Goose Creek CISD superintendent, welcomed guests, and Reverend Mark Broussard from Cedar Bayou Baptist Church gave the invocation. Christina Ritter, director of special education, led the pledges.

O’Brien discussed the vision for the building, which was to give the Special Education Department, previously renting an area at San Jacinto Mall, a new home. The Special Education area includes an apartment for Life Skills students to learn homemaking skills, such as doing laundry and making beds.

The Employee Wellness Clinic, currently in a portable building at Stallworth Stadium, will soon be housed in the ESC and will serve GCCISD’s full-time employees with minor medical needs. Stephanie Myers, benefits coordinator, supervises the clinic.

An Employee Fitness Center, complete with cardio machines, weights, a locker room and showers, may be used by employees. As part of the partnership, Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital has signage in the Employee Fitness Center.

“We also have a large training room upstairs, which has truly been a blessing as we try to hold face-to-face meetings while socially distancing,” said O’Brien. The District Testing Department, under new director of testing and accountability Kerry Tilton, has a large, secure area in the ESC, and specialists for core subjects have moved into their offices in the facility. Phase 2 will include an area for Nutrition Services and the catering services, providing a catering kitchen, support kitchen for student recipes and a cafeteria for employee dining. PBK Architects designed the remodel of the building, and Comex is serving as the contractor. Lockwood, Andrews and Newnam is the program manager for the project, led by Brenda Garcia and the facilities planning and construction team.

At the conclusion of the ribbon cutting ceremony, guests received a tour of the building.
