GCCISD CTE Department Hosts 5th Annual Career Night

Goose Creek CISD’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) Department hosted its 5th Annual Career Night recently at Goose Creek Memorial High School. GCCISD students, along with their parents, attended the event, designed to provide Baytown youth with an opportunity to meet professionals from a variety of fields as well as representatives from high school and post-secondary programs and technical institutions to help them learn the pathway to a successful career.

More than 225 representatives volunteered at the tables, representing all 16 Career Clusters. Forty-one companies, 24 Goose Creek CISD Career Clusters and programs, 29 post-secondary institutions and programs as well as numerous GCCISD faculty members participated. Travita Godfrey, Goose Creek CISD’s College and Career Readiness coordinator, administrators and CTE specialists provided breakout sessions for parents and students on FAFSA, Career Academies, IMPACT ECHS and Stuart Career Tech High School.

Representatives from Altus Emergency Center, Aramark/Goose Creek CISD, Austin Industrial, Bartlett Cocke, Bay Area Rehabilitation Center, Baylor College of Medicine, Baytown Fire Department, Baytown Police Department K9, Beacon Federal Credit Union, Best Buy, Chevron Phillips, City of Baytown, Community Bank of Texas, Community Toyota/Honda/Kia, Construction & Maintenance Education Foundation, Covestro, Culinary Institute LeNotre, Dream It. Do It. Southeast Texas Education Foundation, Edward Jones Investments, Enterprise Products Company, Exxon Mobil, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Frank's Collision Repair, GCCISD Career and Technical Education Dept., GCCISD Police/Security Department and Gulf Coast Educators Federal Credit Union were on hand to provide information.

Also, H & R Block, Houston Methodist San Jacinto Hospital, Jacobs, Kemah Boardwalk - Landry's Inc., Kosteck Portrait Design, Lee College, Opportunity Center, Lee College - Weekend College Program, Mottus, Performance Contractors Inc., Port Houston, S&B Engineers and Constructors, Ltd., Samson Controls, Inc., San Jacinto College, SGS Petroleum Service Corporation, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Texas Parks & Wildlife - Game Warden, Texas Southern University – Maritime, Texas State Technical College, The Art Institute of Houston, Turner Industries Group, University of Houston-Clear Lake College of Education, Wells Fargo and Workforce Solutions were represented at the event.

“I’d like to thank all of the businesses and technical institutions that came out to participate in the 5th Annual Career Night,” said Tameka Mills, CTE coordinator. “It was the best showing of business participation from this area, including Houston, that we’ve had at our Career Night.”
