The annual Aramark Lone Star Chef Competition is always the highlight of the year for some of the Goose Creek CISD culinary students. Since that competition was put on pause due to COVID-19, the Goose Creek Aramark management team wanted to make sure the GCCISD culinary students still had a competition experience. Wednesday, March 24, four teams of culinary students competed in the Goose Creek Fast Foodie Student Competition.

The students were given four required mystery ingredients that had to be incorporated into their dishes along with a full pantry table of ingredients. The students had 45 minutes to complete and plate an entrée dish. The top two teams from the entrée round went on to compete in a dessert round where they had 30 minutes to complete and plate a dish using four new mystery ingredients.

At the end of two intense rounds of cooking, the team from Stuart Career Tech reigned supreme and was named the winner. “My students really enjoy your competitions and I can’t wait to do it again next year with a new group!” said winning instructor Kylie Sobczak. The students, Evelyn Jaimes, Terry Swindoll and Jazmine Lichota are all seniors. The team from Sterling High school came in second place.

This is the third straight culinary win for the team from Stuart Career Center. The team from that school won the Aramark Lone Star Chef state competition in 2019 and came in second place in 2020. The winning dish from 2019, Nathan’s Crunch Wrap, was recognized as Best in K-12 in the sandwich division by Food Management and is featured on the menu Tuesdays and Thursdays at GCCISD secondary schools.

The contest was judged by Goose Creek Chief Operations Officer Dr. Anthony Price, Aramark Chef Robert Johnson and Aramark Regional District Manager Rick Nunez. The winners received a gift pack of culinary items and their entrée will be featured in an upcoming Classic Fare Catering promotion.
