Karen Thomas, a native of Baytown, has over 30 years of experience working in Goose Creek.  She transitioned into the area executive director of campus leadership position in 2016. Through her position, she supervises a cluster of schools and works collaboratively with principals and staff to provide leadership support and to implement new and innovative ways to improve student achievement. 

A product of GCCISD schools, having attended Bowie Elementary, Cedar Bayou Junior School and Robert E. Lee High School, Thomas earned an associate degree from Lee College before graduating with honors from Texas A & M University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in curriculum and instruction. She also obtained her master’s degree in educational management from the University of Houston-Clear Lake.

She began her career in Galena Park ISD as a third-grade teacher, coming home to GCCISD in 1990 as a kindergarten teacher at Crockett Elementary. She was an assistant principal for two years, serving at Stephen F. Austin, De Zavala and Travis Elementaries before being selected as the Hopper Primary principal in 2005. She transitioned to the Travis Elementary principal position in 2010. Ms. Thomas was selected as Principal of the Year in 2010-11 and in 2015-16.
