Geared Up for the 2015-2016 School Year
09/01/2015
Goose Creek CISD is geared up for the 2015-2016 school year, and all the hard work and effort everyone put in before the students arrived really showed! The start of the 2015-2016 school year went smoothly, even on our new IMPACT Early College High School campus, where teachers were still cheerfully unpacking boxes a few hours before the school opened its doors to our students. It is a wonderful facility, and we will hold a dedication of the school for the community later in the fall.

Visiting the campuses during the first week of school allowed me to observe a range of emotions - from the happy smiles of parents dropping their children off at school after a long summer to the tearful goodbyes of the parents of pre-k and kindergarten students as their little ones started school for the first time. One third grader at Clark Elementary very quickly let me know during my visit to the lunchroom that he was not happy to be back at school. When I asked why, he replied, “I just wanted summer to last a little bit (holding his fingers up to show me what ‘a little bit’ was) longer!” I got him to laugh by sharing that he still could look forward to the weekends.

I am so happy to see our students back and engaged with our awesome teachers and staff. I would like to send a big shout out to our administrators who worked most of the summer to ensure that each campus would be ready to go the first week of school.

As the father of a high school student and the husband of a teacher, even though I enjoyed a little break during the summer, I was glad for my family to get back on a regular schedule. I hope that you are adjusting to the school schedules and getting back into a routine.

You have probably heard that Goose Creek CISD and all campuses received a rating of Met Standard from the Texas Education Agency for 2015. This is the highest rating given by TEA, and earning this status again this year confirms that our students are receiving excellent instruction and that they are performing to the high standards set for them on every campus throughout the district. Many of our campuses received Distinction Designations in one or more areas, which indicates that, when compared with similar schools, they are in the top 25 percent.

I hope you will take the opportunity to attend some of the events throughout the district this school year and become actively involved in the education and growth of our students. As always, we will keep you informed about the happenings around the district.
