The Goose Creek CISD Communications team of Beth Dombrowa, director; Susan Passmore, assistant director; Carrie Pryor-Newman, multi-media production specialist and Mima Trujillo, webmaster, garnered 36 awards at the recent Texas School Public Relations Association’s Team TSPRA Conference in Frisco.

Team GCCISD received 13 Gold Star Awards, 13 Silver Star Awards and six Bronze Star Awards along with four Best of Category Awards for school districts with 10,000 – 30,000 students. Dombrowa was awarded Best of Category for her feature, “School Café Manager Sticks to School Menu Diet, Loses 100 Pounds,” which had received national media attention. Pryor-Newman received Best of Category for “Our First Graduation,” a photo taken at a pre-kindergarten graduation.

The Communications Department’s World Class Teacher of the Year Gala Program, which featured QR codes to videos of teachers, received Best of Category as did the video documentary, “The Game – 50th Anniversary,” chronicling 50 years of the Lee vs. Sterling football game.

The Star Awards Celebration was the highlight of the annual conference, which included sessions about topics, such as leadership, social media, bond strategies, communications during a crisis, branding, fundraising, education foundations and how to build a culture of voting.

“I am not surprised that our Goose Creek Communications Department swept the field of more than 1,331 entries at this statewide conference. We get to watch them blaze trails throughout our school district every single day, and I could not be prouder of the quality of information they provide and moments of magic they capture on video and film,” said Randal O’Brien, Goose Creek CISD superintendent. “Recognition at the state level is well deserved and certainly demonstrates the excellence in journalism to which we have become accustomed. I have found that each member of this team employs unique gifts to provide a sneak peek into the world of what public education is all about, enriching the lives of our students and families as they acquire a first-class education.”
