Ashbel Smith Elementary students will receive additional support for the school year thanks to a donation of 700 backpacks from the office of State Rep. Ana Hernandez.

The donation, coordinated through Goose Creek CISD Board Trustee Helen Berrott-Tims, is the first backpack donation of its kind for Ashbel Smith. The campus is located within Hernandez’s legislative district and is the only GCCISD elementary school she represents.

The excitement surrounding one of Goose Creek CISD’s longest-standing rivalries received a Houston-area spotlight Friday, August 28, as FOX 26 brought Friday Football Fever to Robert E. Lee and Ross S. Sterling high schools ahead of the annual Lee-Sterling football game.

The TED-Ed Student Talks program gives students an opportunity to discover, develop, research, and share ideas through TED-style talks. Selected students will participate in a districtwide cohort where they will explore their interests and experiences, develop an original idea, conduct research, receive feedback, revise their work, and ultimately present their idea to an audience.

This summer, 25 FFA members from the four Goose Creek CISD FFA Chapters attended the 98^th Annual Texas FFA State Convention held July 6-10, 2026, in Fort Worth, Texas. The Texas FFA is the nation’s largest state FFA association with a membership of more than 182,000. FFA gives students the opportunity to apply practical classroom knowledge to real-world experiences through local, state and national competitions.

The ExxonMobil Foundation has awarded Goose Creek CISD (GCCISD) a historic $180,000 grant to strengthen Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education, improve elementary science achievement, and increase student and family engagement in learning opportunities.
