Pre-K Family Engagement Plan 2025-2026

Family engagement is defined as:

“The mutual responsibility of families, schools, and communities to build relationships to support student learning and achievement, support family well-being, and the continuous learning and development of children, families, and educators. Family engagement is fully integrated in the child’s educational experience and is both culturally and linguistically appropriate.” Texas Administrative Code §102.1003.

Goose Creek CISD will create a partnership between our PreK families, schools, and community. One of our core values is to provide a collaborative community and parental involvement, and this plan helps us achieve that goal.

TEA has defined six family engagement categories that must be supported within the local family engagement plan. The six areas and district strategies to support each family engagement category are listed below.

Facilitate Family-to-Family Support

Support May Include:

• Meet the Teacher/Open House

• Parent Conferences

• Pre-K Parent University sessions for Executive Functioning at Home, Routines and Positive Parenting, Creating Family Fun at Home 

• Pre-K Parent University sessions for Literacy is the Foundation, Helping Your Child Transition to Kindergarten

• Pre-K Registration Round-Up Events

• Campus Volunteer Opportunities

• District Community Meetings 

Establish a Network of Community Resources

Resources May Include:

• Pre-K Registration Events

• Child Nutrition Information

• Immunization

• Child Find

• Backpack Buddies

• Toys for Tots

• Translators

• Home Visits

• Community Youth Specialists and Campus Student Support Specialist assistance

Increase Family Participation in Decision-Making

Opportunities May Include:

• Campus site based decision making committee

• District based parent committee

• Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC) parent representation

• IEP Meetings

• District Surveys

Equip Families with Tools to Enhance and Extend Learning

Tools May Include:

• CLI Engage Family Resources CLI Engage

• TEA Parent Guides

• Parent-teacher conferences

• Phone calls/emails

• Home visits

• Home learning resources and extension activities

• Screener data

• Campus website and social media 

• Weekly folders

• Campus Family Nights

Develop Staff Skills in Evidence-Based Practices that Support Families in Meeting Their Child’s Learning Benchmarks

Opportunities May Include:

• Ongoing professional development for all staff in the area of cultural responsiveness

• PLC’s and planning sessions

• PD on Texas PK Guidelines

• Interaction/guidance and training with campus brain coaches on research-based strategies 

• Develop staff skills to support families in meeting their goals

• Gain an understanding of early intervention services and community resources to support family inquiries and needs

Evaluate Family Engagement Efforts and Use Evaluations for Continuous Improvement

Evaluations May Include:

• District and Campus Surveys

• Campus Event Evaluations

• Feedback after family events such as PreK Parent University sessions

• Sign in sheets from campus events

• Home visit logs

• Parent and Family End of Year Surveys
