WHAT IS SSSC?
Required by Education Code 37.109 a safety and security committee will be established by GCCISD will responsibilities to;
- Participate on behalf of the district in developing and implementing emergency plans consistent with the district multihazard emergency operations plan to ensure that the plans reflect specific campus, facility, or support services needs;
- Periodically provide recommendations to the board and district administrators regarding updating the district multihazard emergency operations plan [see CKC] in accordance with best practices identified by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), the TxSSC, or a person included in the registry of persons providing school safety or security consulting services established by the TxSSC;
- Provide the district with any campus, facility, or support services information required in connection with a safety and security audit, a safety and security audit report, or another report required to be submitted by the district to the TxSSC;
- Review each report required to be submitted by the district to the TxSSC to ensure that the report contains accurate and complete information regarding each campus, facility, or support service in accordance with criteria established by the center; and
- Consult with local law enforcement agencies on methods to increase law enforcement presence near district campuses

GCCISD’s overall mission is “Developing the Whole Child,” we as GCCISD SSSC will focus on safety and security of all GCCISD students, staff and visitors that go beyond the campus but into their community.
Why do we need a Safe & Secure Schools Committee?
The District, in response to TEC 37.109, School Safety and Security Committee, has established a Committee to ensure a safe and secure learning and work environment for all GCCISD students and employees.
Who can join GCCISD SSSC?
Representatives designated by the Superintendent will be appointed for a two-year term, unless replaced by the Superintendent. Representatives (committee members) required by TEC 37.109 will have no expiration, unless replaced by the Superintendent or designee assigned by superintendent (reference TASB esource).

Providing a safe and secure learning environment promotes good educational practices and reduces stress in the mind and body for students and staff to focus on education.
