Giant Staff Member of the Month

Our Giant Staff Member of the Month for December 2022 is Lori Cooper, the front office receptionist at Highlands Elementary. Mrs. Cooper has been in Goose Creek CISD for 26 years, all at Highlands Elementary. Many of her former students are now parents of students at the campus. Lori is described as an inspiration to everyone who walks through the doors. She has a sweet smile, a kind voice, and a sympathetic heart. She greets everyone enthusiastically and never forgets a face, making her an icon to the Highlands community.

 

Giant of the month is not the only award Mrs. Cooper was given in a room full of fifth-grade students and her entire family. Mrs. Cooper was awarded $2,400 and a table full of prizes from the Go Fund Me account funded by the Highlands community, The Lori Cooper Appreciation Fund. Shelby Jeffcoat, a Highlands Elementary alumnus, made it his mission to honor teachers and school staff members throughout the school year by utilizing his social media platforms to raise money. Shelby said, “To some people, she’s known as a receptionist, but to me and many others, she is known as so much more. She is the smiling face that has greeted you as soon as you walk in the front door of Highlands Elementary. She is a warm hug. She is an encouraging word. And for me, she was and still is a safe space. She’s family.” –Shelby Jeffcoat.
