Welcome
to James Bowie Elementary!
Just take a look
around the Bowie Elementary School campus, and
you'll see that our Bowie Bears are "Bound
for Success!" We are committed to helping
every child succeed in learning while providing
a safe and caring environment.
Our
mission and goals...
The staff of Bowie Elementary School believes
that all students, based on their individual
ability, can achieve their highest levels of
academic performance on basic grade-level skills,
regardless of previous academic performance,
family background, socio-economic status, race,
or gender.
We believe that our school's purpose is to educate,
while expecting positive growth in social-emotional
behaviors and attitudes. We accept the responsibility
to teach all students so that they can attain
their maximum educational potential by developing
their ability to think logically, independently,
and creatively, and to communicate effectively.
Our goals are the following:
-
To increase academic achievement so the
educational potential
of each child is met
-
To
promote positive self-esteem and responsible
student behavior

Bayer
is Bowie's Partner in Education through
the Baytown Chamber of Commerce Program
and a wonderful neighbor as well.
The company's commitment to the children
and staff at Bowie is tremendous,
and the efforts of the people at Bayer
help to assure a quality and successful
education for our children. Volunteers
from Bayer read to our students; volunteer
as "Pen Pals"; and teach
Junior Achievement. Bayer also provides
many, many other activities that benefit
the Bowie children.
In May 1994, Bayer, then known as
Miles, Inc., was recognized as the
1993-94 Chamber of Commerce "Outstanding
Partner in Education." The 2007-08 year marks the 20th year of the Bayer-Bowie partnership.
The Bowie Parent-Teacher Organization
indicates the strength of parent support
we have at our school. In addition
to all the volunteer time given, the
funds raised by parents have provided
Bowie with the "extras"
that every school desires. The effort
and dedication of the Bowie parents
and community cannot be measured in
words. We continue to thank them for
their dedication.
Facts about our
school...
Bowie Elementary was built in 1955, with renovations
made in 1967, 1981, and 1997. Due to the community's support of the 2005 bond issue, a new Bowie Elementary opened on Jan. 8, 2008, with approximately 94,000 square feet.
According to
the September 2007 membership report, Bowie’s
enrollment is 649, with 32% White, 48% Hispanic, 19% African-American, and 1% Other.
Our mascot is the bear, and our school colors
are royal blue and white.
A message from
our principal...
Welcome to James Bowie Elementary School! We
are very proud of our school, and we believe
it is a great place for children to learn and
for teachers to teach. Many Baytonians have
attended classes here throughout the years,
and you can feel their great sense of pride
in our school when they talk about Bowie. We
invite you and your family to visit our campus
at any time. We will be glad to show off the
very best!
Sincerely,
Ginger
McKay
