The Goose Call Ep. 13 Prekindergarten matters, big things happen when children are small. Q and A

Q: Why should you enroll your child in prekindergarten?

A: Sending a child to prekindergarten results in better kindergarten readiness, improved vocabulary, and enhanced reading skills. But did you know that the benefits of prekindergarten go far beyond their school years and into their adult lives? Starting at age four, nationwide studies reveal that investing early in your child’s education yields a long list of benefits that go beyond test scores and into the very fabric of his or her future.

Q: Who qualifies for prekindergarten?

Q. Will GCCISD have an Early Learning Academy?

A: Yes, GCCISD is in the early construction stages for the central Early Learning Academy. We have plans to offer Early Learning Academies on the north and south side of our district so that all future prekindergarten students will have access to experience-based learning. GCCISD will continue to provide updates and progress on our Early Learning Academies.

Q. What is an Early Learning Academy?

A: Our Early Learning Academy will be an experienced-based, research-led approach to early brain development. The Early Learning Academy is a breeding ground for creativity, curiosity, and interest-led learning. The facility consists of thematic classrooms where students and teachers rotate to different settings every two weeks. Students are served family-style meals and provided environments to encourage collaboration, inclusivity, and team culture. Goose Creek CISD is partnering with Fueling Brains, an award-winning early childhood development organization, to implement a research-based left brain, right brain, and movement curriculum.

Q: When will the Early Learning Academy open?

A: Our first early learning academy, located on West Cedar Bayou Lynchburg Road behind Sterling High School, is currently scheduled to open in the fall of 2022. This location will service students zoned to Alamo Elementary, Austin Elementary, Bowie Elementary, Clark Elementary, Crockett Elementary, and DeZavala Elementary. Pre-K students attending these schools will pilot the Fueling Brains curriculum in the fall of 2021 at their current school. GCCISD will be providing updates for additional Early Learning Academies in the near future once plans have been finalized.
