GCM Book Club Holds First Annual Poetry Contest

The Goose Creek Memorial High School Book Club held their first annual Poetry Contest this school year. Students had the opportunity to write a poem and submit to one or more of the following categories: prose, haiku, rap/lyrical, free verse, and rhyming. Judges selected 1 winner per category and three Grand Prize winners. The student body then selected one Overall Grand Prize Winner from the top three. Over eighty poems were submitted making the judging hard for each category. Nonetheless, the first set of judges selected five overall winners, and they were:

  • Prose- B.T.S. (student wants to remain anonymous)
  • Rap/Lyrical- Gabriel Brock
  • Free Verse- Morghan Holmes
  • Rhyming-Alyssa St. Julian
  • Haiku-Kennedy Jacquet

 

The second set of judges selected the top three poems from the top 5. The winners were:

  • Prose: B.T.S. “Untitled”
  • Rap/Lyrical-Gabriel Brock "American Dream"
  • Free Verse-Morghan Holmes "Petrified"

 

The student body voted, and the winners are:

  • First Place- Rap/Lyrical-Gabriel Brock "American Dream"
  • Second Place- Free Verse-Morghan Holmes "Petrified" Third Place- Prose: B.T.S. “Untitled”
