IMPACT ECHS Spanish Club Shakes It Off

After learning about diabetes and other health issues, the IMPACT Early College High School Spanish Club had to “Shake It Off” at their recent monthly social. This event was for Diabetes Awareness Month, so students put together healthy shakes with fruit and vegetables donated by Aramark.

Priscila Garza, coordinator of Healthy Community Schools, presented information about identifying high risk groups and the signs and symptoms of diabetes. Students used a health quiz from Nutriliving.com to find out what was lacking in their diet, and they chose fruit and vegetables recommended for them. Encouraged to try new foods, most students were pleased with their blended concoctions.

“We have meetings and a social at least once a month,” said Juliana Mendoza, the Spanish Club’s Awareness Campaigns leader. “There are at least two community service opportunities every month that we try to get our peers involved in if possible.”

IMPACT ECHS Spanish Club sponsors are Erika Camarillo and Keith Brown.
