Philosophy of Physical Education

Physical education is an essential and integral part of the total educational process for all children. Physical education plays a critical role in developing an individual’s intellectual, emotional and social growth.

A quality physical education program provides opportunities for the individual to develop physiological, cognitive, and affective growth through participation in various activities. Growth occurs through participation in a comprehensive, developmental program that emphasizes fitness, motor skill development, and the knowledge of health-related concepts.

The Physical Education Program includes experiences in all Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills necessary for the development of physical fitness, motor skills, rhythmic activities, games, sports, gymnastics, and the concepts of health-related wellness. The program provides a foundation in which all children can progressively internalize the life long benefits of becoming healthy, active and productive members of society.

Participation in physical education can contribute to positive attitudes regarding vigorous activity as essential throughout life to maintain health and to enrich the quality of life. Because of its unique and essential contribution to the total education program, the Goose Creek Independent School District strongly recommends quality physical instruction be required for grades K-12.
