Coronavirus (COVID-19)

-

Goose Creek CISD follows the guidance and expertise of national and local health officials to help protect our students and staff from all communicable diseases. The District is aware that the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) along with the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) are monitoring an outbreak of respiratory illness COVID-19, caused by a new coronavirus first identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province,  China.

-

While there are no reports of this illness in our area, families are encouraged to visit the DSHS and CDC for additional information.  No additional precautions have been advised for our District at this time, but we will continue to be in communication with our local partners and stand ready to take all appropriate measures.

-

There is currently no vaccine to prevent COVID-19. The best way to prevent infection is to take precautions to avoid exposure to this virus, which are like the precautions you take to avoid the flu. DSHS always recommends these everyday actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the  bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.

-

Follow the CDC’s recommendations for using a facemask:

  • The CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19.
  • Facemasks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to others. The use of facemasks is also crucial for health workers and people who are taking care of someone in close settings (at home or in a health care facility).

24 Hour Rule

A student with a temperature of 100o or above will be sent home and must remain fever-free, without the use of fever-reducing medicines, for 24 hours before returning to school.

Goose Creek CISD closely monitors events concerning communicable diseases and will follow the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and our local health department's recommendations regarding communicable disease protocols.  Use the links below to obtain more information.

Communicable Disease Control

In accordance with Texas Administrative Code Title 25 Part 1 Chapter 97 rule 97.7, the school administrator shall exclude from attendance any child having or suspected of having a communicable disease designated by the Commissioner of Health (commissioner) as cause for exclusion until one of the criteria listed in subsection c) of this section is fulfilled.

(c) Any child excluded for reason of communicable disease may be readmitted, as determined by the health authority, by:

(1) submitting a certificate of the attending physician, advanced practice nurse, or physician assistant attesting that the child does not currently have signs or symptoms of a communicable disease or to the disease's non-communicability in a school setting
(2) submitting a permit for readmission issued by a local health authority; or
(3) meeting readmission criteria as established by the commissioner.

Goose Creek CISD follows the Texas Department of State Health Services recommendation for immunization compliance in order for a student to attend school.  The law requires that all students be as up to date as medically feasible in order to attend classes. Use the links below for vaccine requirements for each grade level.
