Health Science Career Academy

The Goose Creek CISD Health Science Career Academy, housed at Ross S. Sterling High School, partners with Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital, Walgreens, Altus, local nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, and other local healthcare facilities to provide students with opportunities to experience diverse healthcare occupations.

Students step into biomedical science professionals' roles and investigate topics about medicine, physiology, genetics, and microbiology. Students experience a rich learning environment with the newly renovated academy, which includes a pharmacy lab and pharmacy counter, an emergency medical technician (EMT) lab equipped with an ambulance simulator, a certified clinical medical assistant (CCMA) lab equipped with two patient rooms and a phlebotomy lab, and a certified nursing assistant (CNA) lab. Students can earn either a Public Service or a STEM Endorsement and industry certifications such as Microsoft Office Specialist, CNA, CCMA, Pharmacy Technician, EKG, and Phlebotomy.

The Health Science Academy earned a Model Academy Designation from the National Career Academy Coalition (NCAC) based on the National Standards of Practice for Career Academies. The academy will serve as a tour site for aspiring academics across our nation, providing many opportunities for student leadership and growth.
