152 Goose Creek CISD choir students earn all-region honors

A total of 152 Goose Creek CISD high school and junior school students have been chosen as members of the All-Region Choir.

Goose Creek’s high school singers comprised more than one-quarter of the all-region choir selections at that level while the district had a record number of junior school singers named to the elite choir team.

Ninety-eight Goose Creek CISD high school students were selected to the All-Region Choir during auditions at Nederland High School on Sept. 26. More than 1,000 students from the area auditioned for the all region high school choir.

“Our combined high school all-region choir members not only placed more than any other district, they comprise more than 25 percent of the entire region choir,” said Tim Vaughn, Goose Creek Director of Fine Arts. “I am very proud of these students and directors for all their hard work”

The high school choir directors are Kym Reeves and Laura Bendorf, Robert E. Lee; Nikki Thompson and Jennifer Lewis, Ross S. Sterling; and Holly Lewallen, Goose Creek Memorial.

Robert E. Lee High School students selected to All-Region Choir include Cesar Castro, Jorge Lozoya, Nathan Wood, Danielle Hall, Kashina Compton, Rebecca Banda, Jahrel Richards, Vanessa Gracia, Karen Tovar, Mary Rambadadt, and Amie Vollman.

Ross S. Goose Creek Memorial High School students selected to All-Region Choir include Emma Alanis, Jordan Allison, Alex Andre, Joey Arambula, Marquest Bacote, Josue Banda, Kaylie Bell, Klay Cardona, Nad'ege Cherubin, Lindsay Clark, Alyssa Clift, Katelyn Colvin, Ambur Cotton, Cameron Creeks, Dejon Dill, Clifton Edwards, Rachel Gomez, Me'Lisa Greenidge, Madelyn Hamilton, Alex Hansel, Meagan Hemby, Kohlman Hollister, Nioca Huff, Ashlana Jeffers, Allison Little, Skip Poth, Taylor Pursley, Tristan Smith, Logan Spurgeon, Cory Trahan, and Lindsay Turner. Fifty-four Goose Creek CISD junior school students were selected as All-Region Choir members after competing at the All-Region Choir contest on Oct. 7 in Nederland. Students competed against more than 1,000 choir students from area schools in an individual singing contest.

The junior high choir concert is scheduled for Nov. 14 at 1st Baptist Church in Vidor.

“This is an all-time record for junior school choir students in our district to make all region, ” Vaughn said. “I have been a part of Goose Creek for 21 years and I must say our junior high choir programs have come a long way.”

Vaughn said the district has always had wonderful students filled with talent and pride, and that continues.

The difference and reason for the improved success, he said, “is our junior high choir staff. Their hard work, talent and ability to motivate kids is evident in the district’s success.”

The district’s junior school choir directors are Laura Bendorf, Horace Mann; Neal Gage, Baytown Junior; Sarah Scoggins, Cedar Bayou; Mireya Rodriguez, Gentry; and Tonya Callahan, Highlands.

Baytown Junior School students selected to All-Region Choir include Bianca Quinones, Mallory Stoerner, Daisy Longoria, Allondra Patino, Sara Spurlock, Alicia Almendariz, Mitchell Smith, Walter Woodley, Cederick Godfrey, and Robert Moore.

Cedar Bayou Junior School students selected to All-Region Choir include Andrea Torres, Anthony Lette, Anthony Roberson, Ashlynn Colson, Autumn Anthony, Elijah Chenier, Faith Hebert, Jasmine Birdwell, Javier Trujillo, Kelly Bird, Loren Licon, Marshall Cooke, Raven Jenkins, Robert Beckmann, and Shelby Lowell.

Gentry Junior School students selected to All-Region Choir include Kailyn Anaya, Sarah Davila, Taylor Start, Hazel Cardoso, Dai'Zhah Anatole, Cassadie Cook, Tierra Stewart, Dashedra Marshall, Symone Scott, Juan Villegas, Patrick Pride, Kevin Miranda, Miguel Trejo, and Darrion LaDay.

Highlands Junior School students selected to All-Region Choir include Alan Cauthen, Alisia Ortegon, Breia Drendon, Courtney Pierre, Destenee Elliott, Kayla Manuel, Kendall Dorsey, Lorina Semien, Marina Basquez, Morgan Wilson, Robert Harrold, and Rosie Hernandez.

Horace Mann Junior School students selected to All-Region Choir include Abraham Irias, Donava Townsend, and Allan Sandoval.
