Byron Terrier named Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services in Goose Creek CISD

Byron Terrier is the new Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services following approval by the Board of Trustees on June 25. Regarding his recommendation of Terrier, Superintendent Toby York said, “I am extremely pleased that Byron Terrier will be joining the Goose Creek CISD team. He brings a wealth of expertise and talent to our district. His experience as a superintendent in a smaller district makes him knowledgeable in all areas of school district operation. He has proven success as an administrator, teacher and coach, and I know he is going to be a tremendous asset to us.”

Filling the position vacated by Robby McGowen who is now superintendent in Alvin ISD, Terrier will be responsible for formulating an organizational structure for the management of the human resources, facilities planning/management, construction, and school support services program.

Terrier comes to Goose Creek from Buna ISD where he has been superintendent for the past three years. Buna ISD is located in east Texas and serves a population of almost 1,500 students. Prior to becoming superintendent, he served in multiple roles at one time--as assistant superintendent and high school, junior high, and elementary principal for one year at Evadale ISD, after having served for three years as high school principal. Also in Evadale, Terrier served as athletic director for two years and as a high school classroom teacher. Subjects he taught include biology, anatomy and physiology, integrated physics and chemistry, health and physical education. In addition, he taught biology in Hardin-Jefferson High School for four years.

Having led his basketball teams to the state championship and Texas Cup Champions in 2000-2001, Terrier was named the Texas State Coach of the Year in that same year. He was named District Coach of the Year six times.

Completing his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1993, he earned his Master of Education in Administration in 2003 and his Superintendent Certification in 2005, all from Lamar University in Beaumont. He is currently enrolled in Lamar University’s Doctoral Studies in Educational Leadership program and will complete his doctorate in May.

Terrier says that he looks forward to working with an outstanding staff, students and community. “Goose Creek is an outstanding district with a solid reputation. In reviewing the district’s goals, it is obvious that Goose Creek CISD is focused on student success. It is an honor for me to join the Goose Creek CISD team.”

He and his wife, Ann, have two daughters, Ashlen, 15, and Madison, 13.
