Renee Meyer
Meyer named principal at Walker Elementary
The Goose Creek CISD Board of Trustees recently named Renee Meyer the next principal of Victoria Walker Elementary School.
Meyer, 31, has been the assistant principal at Walker since it opened in 2007. The third principal in Walker’s short history, Mrs. Meyer takes over for Suzanne Keith who is retiring after a 33-year education career at Goose Creek CISD.
“I feel extremely blessed every day that I get to work with the great students, and staff of Walker,” Meyer said.
“I am very devoted to Victoria Walker and feel fortunate to be the principal of a school where my administrative career started,” Mrs. Meyer said. “It has been wonderful being in Goose Creek and learning under great leadership. I am thrilled about the endless possibilities of what the future holds for our school. Go Wildcats!”
Mrs. Keith has no doubt that Walker will flourish under Mrs. Meyer’s leadership.
“I am so excited about Mrs. Meyer becoming the principal at Victoria Walker,” said Mrs. Keith. “She knows our families, students and community. She is such a capable leader! I am looking forward to hearing all the wonderful accomplishments from Victoria Walker.”
Mrs. Meyer started her career teaching fourth grade in Galena Park ISD in 2002. Then she went on to teach fifth grade and then moved to be a campus instructional specialist all at the same school — Galena Park Elementary.
Mrs. Meyer received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Houston-Clear Lake where she is currently working on a doctorate in Educational Leadership. She is married and has three boys ages 10, 9, 7.
As for Mrs. Keith, she is looking forward to the next chapter in her life.
“I have loved my career in Goose Creek. I have had the greatest opportunity to work with the finest teachers and administrators,” she said.
During her 33-year career, Mrs. Keith taught at Ashbel Smith and Carver elementary schools, served as assistant principal at Ashbel Smith, Hopper Primary and Highlands Elementary, and served as principal at San Jacinto and Walker elementary schools
She was named teacher of the year while at Carver, and in 2008, was named the principal of the year for Goose Creek CISD.
“I have worked on six wonderful campuses in many different capacities, loving each one of them. I have learned so much from the students and teachers. They have certainly enriched my life,” Mrs. Keith said. “I am certainly going to miss my students and colleagues so very much!”
AP of the Year
Shortly before Mrs. Meyer was hired as principal at Walker, the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association named her District 4 Assistant Principal of the Year.
Mrs. Meyer was selected by peers based on her contributions and efforts to improve student learning. A dependable, supportive school leader, Mrs. Meyer is a role model and mentor for students and staff, the group said.
She will be recognized at the TEPSA Awards Banquet on June 15 at the Austin Renaissance Hotel.
