Jr. school students compete in annual UIL academic meet
More than 360 students competed in myriad events at Goose Creek CISD’s annual junior school UIL Academic meet held March 2 and March 3 at Highlands Junior School.
Sixth, seventh and eighth grade students from every junior school campus competed with each campus represented among the winning teams or individual events.
Individual medals were awarded in prose reading, impromptu, poetry reading, number sense, general math, calculator skills, dictionary skills, listening skills, science, spelling, writing, music memory, art memory as well as maps, graphs and charts. Team medals were awarded for group improvisation. Schools also received first place trophies for overall points in each event.
First through third place trophies were awarded to Highlands Junior, Gentry Junior, and Cedar Bayou Junior for having the highest cumulative points scored by students in all events.
The district-wide competition was hosted by Highlands Junior School with the assistance of five campus coordinators. Event coaches as well as volunteer monitors, judges and graders also helped to make this event a success.
