
Howard Sampson
Giant Alumnus of the Month
Our Giant Alumnus of the Month for August 2022 is Howard Sampson. Mr. Sampson has served on the Goose Creek CISD Board of Trustees since 2009. The board was recently awarded Region 4 Board of the Year and notified that they were selected as one of the top five boards and in the running to receive the state honor.
Mr. Sampson attended Harlem Elementary and Highlands Junior before graduating from Sterling High School in 1974. He earned All-State and All-American honors at Sterling as a defensive back. After graduation, he attended the University of Arkansas, earning a bachelor’s degree in sociology and playing football. He was named to the All-Southwest Team and voted the Outstanding Player Who Exemplifies Arkansas Tradition.
The Green Bay Packers signed Mr. Sampson as a free agent in 1978, where he played two full seasons. After his NFL career, he earned a master’s degree in city planning from Texas Southern University. He went to work for the Commissioner’s Office and stayed for 11 years. Mr. Sampson left for seven years to work as an assistant coach at East Carolina and later a defensive coordinator for Western Arizona before returning to the Baytown area. He is retired from the Harris County Precinct 2 Road and Bridge Inspection Department.
