The Goose Creek CISD Community Engagement department held its first “Cafecito en Familia” or “Coffee with Families” on April 4th. The event was a joint effort with the Harlem Elementary School’s Dual Language parent night. “Cafecito en Familia” is one of several departmental initiatives designed to increase the district’s outreach with Spanish-speaking families. Veronica Dyson, district translator, greeted families, shared copies of the district’s Spanish magazine and cards that linked to the district’s Spanish podcast, while children nibbled on cookies and parents drank coffee, sponsored by the Education Foundation.

The campus was filled with parents eager to see the progress their child made in the dual language program and the students did not disappoint. They performed several songs in both English and Spanish, as well as recited the campus creed.
“Our first “Cafecito en Familia” was a major success,” Dyson said. “We look forward to doing this again at other campuses very soon.”
