Congratulations to our amazing GCCISD junior school National History Day winners!

Seven students, along with their sponsors, parents, and district administrators, attended the national event at the University of Maryland-College Park June 10-15th.
Of the teams that competed, one placed within the top 10 in the nation.
Students Annali Ramirez, Gabriel Ramirez, Yashvir Sing Gill and Jonathan Lewis made their way to Washington D.C. to compete in the National History Event under the direction of Mr. Claude Garrison of E.F. Green Junior School. These incredible students won first place at the Texas History Day event held this past April, advancing them to the national competition. At the National History Day event, they were finalists in the junior group exhibit category, placing sixth in the nation. In addition, the group won a special award for Outstanding Entry from the state of Texas at National History Day for their exhibit entitled, “Got Safe Milk?”, an exhibit that explored the impact of the process of pasteurization through history and today. Congratulations to you all!

Maahi Singh, also from E.F. Green Junior School, earned second place at the Texas History Day event and competed at the national event. Her junior historical paper, “Booker T. Washington v. W.E.B. DuBois: Frontiers in Black Upward Mobility, Civil Rights, and Economic Stability Challenging Conventional Thinking in America,” was one of 11 projects selected to be displayed at the White House Historical Association Showcase. Her sponsor is Jennie McBunch.
Way to go, students!
