GCCISD Celebrates School Board Recognition Month
01/25/2024

By: Dr. Norma Martinez, Director of Communications

As declared by the Texas Association of School Boards, January is School Board Recognition Month. Districts around the state celebrate and recognize the crucial role the elected board of trustees play in our communities and schools. This year’s theme is Locally Elected, Community Connected.

Before the Regular Board Meeting in January, the GGCISD board members were treated to an appreciation dinner prepared by the culinary students from Stuart Career Technical High School. During the meeting, Gretchen Knowles, the Baytown Community Liaison from Harris County Precinct 2 Commissioner Adrian Garcia, presented each board member a certificate of appreciation. Lawrence Bell, Community Involvement, read a proclamation from Harris County Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey. City of Baytown Council Members Laura Alvarado, Ken Griffith, and Sarah Graham also presented the board with a proclamation. A local Brownies and Girl Scout troop, led by Dr. June Stansky, read a letter of appreciation and Sarah Flusche informed the board that books had been donated to each of the GGCISD campus’s libraries in their honor. The last presentation included posters from all campuses around the district and a surprise video by the GCCISD Community Engagement Department.
