Karis Johnson

Giant Student of the Month

Our Giant Student of the Month for November 2024 is Karis Johnson, a remarkable 6th grader in the Goose Creek Virtual Learning Academy.

Karis embodies dedication and resilience. She immerses herself in numerous activities, balancing her time to achieve recent honors, including ribbons and awards for her Junior FFA pig-raising competitions and accolades in horse riding events. Her active role as a student ambassador in the academy shines through as she builds meaningful connections with staff and teachers, helping welcome families during campus parent meetings.

Karis is a true hero and inspiration to her peers. Diagnosed with severe scoliosis at a young age, she courageously faced a 6-hour spinal fusion surgery in May. Over the summer, she focused on recovery, all while maintaining her commitment to academics and extracurricular activities. Through her journey, Karis inspires others, showing empathy and encouragement, and demonstrating that setbacks don’t have to define you. With grit and a positive spirit, she finds a way forward, proving that challenges are merely stepping stones to success.
