Passing the Torch

Dear Goose Creek CISD Community,

I hope you are enjoying a restful summer with family and friends. As we prepare for the upcoming school year, I want to share an important update regarding my upcoming retirement and what this means for our district moving forward.

As you may have heard, I have entered into a retirement agreement with our Board of Trustees. This agreement allows us to thoughtfully plan for the district’s future leadership while ensuring a smooth and effective start to the 2025-2026 school year. I will remain in my role as superintendent through the fall semester to support a strong start to the school year and to provide the Board with time to conduct a thorough search for the next superintendent.

The position has not yet been posted as the Board is currently reviewing search firms to guide this important process. Their goal is to ensure meaningful community input and find the best leader to continue advancing the vision and momentum we have built together. This transition is an opportunity to reflect on all that we have accomplished as a district.

Throughout my time as superintendent, I have kept our students at the heart of every decision. I am proud of the opportunities we have created for them, from establishing our Early Learning Academies to build strong educational foundations, to expanding our Career and Technical Education programs, and increasing pathways for college readiness and success beyond graduation. These achievements are only possible through the dedication of our staff and the strong partnership we share with our families and community.

Passing the torch is never easy, but I am confident that Goose Creek CISD will continue to thrive long into the future. I am grateful to our Board of Trustees for supporting this transition in a way that benefits our students, staff, families, and community.

Thank you for your continued support as we prepare to welcome our students back for another incredible school year. I remain fully committed to ensuring that we begin the 2025-2026 school year strong and well-prepared, as our Giant Future depends on it.

It has been my life’s greatest honor to serve you,

Dr. Randal O’Brien

Superintendent of Schools
