watch commencements live online
Graduation from high school is the culmination of a learning process that began years earlier and will continue for a lifetime, and now Goose Creek CISD high school seniors are ready to don caps and gowns for their big walk across the stage.
Commencement for Robert E. Lee High School will be held on Friday, June 5, followed by commencement for Ross S. Sterling High School on Saturday, June 6. Both ceremonies begin at 8 p.m. at Stallworth Stadium.
The Robert E. Lee Class of 2009 has 473 members, while Ross S. Sterling will graduate around 640 this year.
To ensure the safety of graduates and audience members and maintain the dignity of the occasion, GCCISD has compiled a list of items that will not be permitted at Stallworth Stadium during the upcoming Lee and Sterling graduations.
Among the items that will be prohibited inside the stadium are balloons, weapons or firearms, air horns/whistles or other mechanical noisemakers, food of any kind, coolers or containers, fireworks or explosives, illegal substances, Frisbees and beach balls, laser pens, or knives of any size, including Leatherman’s and multi-purpose tools. Audience members should dress appropriately — that means no profane or sexually lewd clothing. Additional security at graduation will enforce the rules.
Live from Stallworth!

In case of rain
Goose Creek CISD officials are making plans for Robert E. Lee and Ross S. Sterling high school graduation ceremonies in the event that rain causes the events to be moved indoors.
Lee graduation is planned for 8 p.m. Friday, June 5, at Stallworth Stadium. Graduates will practice at the stadium at 8:30 a.m. that morning, and at that time they will be given four rainout tickets for their families, friends and loved ones.
Those with tickets will be admitted to the Lee auditorium, which will be the alternate site for the ceremony. The Lee auditorium has a seating capacity of 1,800. The ceremony also will be broadcast in the boys’ gym for those who do not have tickets to the event.
Sterling will hold graduation practice at Stallworth Stadium at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 6, in preparation for the ceremony at 8 p.m. Graduates will be given four rainout tickets for their guests at that time. In the event of a rainout, the Sterling graduation will take place in two parts: Last names A-K at 8 p.m., and L-Z at 9:30 p.m.
Two of these tickets will admit graduates’ guests to the Sterling auditorium, which has a seating capacity of 1,180. The other two tickets will allow guests entrance to the girls’ gym, where there will be a live broadcast of the event.
Decisions regarding location changes for graduation will be made at 4 p.m. both days. If the location changes, this information will be posted on the district web site, www.gccisd.net.
