Dr. Randal O’Brien has served as superintendent of Goose Creek CISD since 2014; making him the district’s 15th superintendent in its 100-year history. 

 
He holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from East Texas Baptist University, Master of Education in administration from Sam Houston State University and a doctorate from Lamar University. His experience includes more than two decades in education, along with another six in the business sector prior to entering the education field.

 

He joined GCCISD as deputy superintendent for administrative services, overseeing the planning, design and development of three elementary schools and continuing to facilitate the $267 million 2013 Bond. During his tenure, the district has completed construction of several new auxiliary facilities, including the transportation, technology and robotics centers, established seven career academies, opened new campuses including IMPACT Early College High School, Shelia C. Liles Early Learning Academy, Jessie Lee Pumphrey Elementary School and the newly designed San Jacinto Elementary School, ensured that all schools received a “Met Standard” rating from TEA and passed the 2019 Bond.

 

Prior to joining the district, O’Brien served as superintendent of Hubbard ISD, high school principal in Blooming Grove ISD, middle school principal in Tarkington ISD, intermediate school assistant principal in Willis and assistant principal in Montgomery ISD. At Conroe ISD, he was the vocational marketing coordinator and has taught marketing education, math, science and physical education, along with coaching a variety of sports.
