Sherry Young

Giant Staff Member of the Month

Our Giant Staff Member of the Month for January 2022, Sherry Young, has worked in Goose Creek CISD for 24 years. Her entire GCCISD career has been at Harlem Elementary. Teaching physical education and instilling a love for health and wellness in her students has always been her dream. Sherry graduated with her kinesiology degree from Texas A&M University in 1994.

Sherry is more than a PE teacher. She is placed at the front of the car rider line every year to welcome families as they drop students off to school. This may seem minor, but the parents at Harlem Elementary continue to express their gratitude year after year for her energetic morning welcome that continues to make parents and students feel safe and confident going into school. Her principal describes her as cheerful, willing to go the extra mile, and an inspiration. “I truly believe my students are so special and try to treat them like my own children,” Sherry said. “I strive to attend their extracurricular activities outside of school and have been blessed to keep in touch with many students throughout the years. I consider them my family.”
