The Goose Creek CISD Board of Trustees approved a mascot change for Ashbel Smith Elementary School at the July 11th School Board meeting. Ashbel Smith Elementary is changing their mascot from the Apaches to the Jaguars, which will go into effect at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year. Based on feedback from the Ashbel Smith faculty, it was determined that there was a need for a more age appropriate mascot that aligned with Goose Creek CISD’s core values. The staff and families at Ashbel Smith Elementary were asked to complete a survey on new mascot options and the Jaguars received the most votes. Goose Creek CISD is committed to creating a culture of mutual respect, dignity, and transparency to build trust with each other and those we serve. We are excited to roll out a new Jaguar logo for Ashbel Smith Elementary this year, which is coming soon!

La Junta Directiva de Goose Creek CISD aprobó un cambio de mascota para la Escuela Primaria Ashbel Smith en la reunión de la Mesa Directiva del 11 de julio. La Primaria Ashbel Smith está cambiando su mascota de Apaches a Jaguares, lo cual entrará en vigor a principios del año escolar del 2022-2023. Con base en los comentarios de la facultad de Ashbel Smith, se determinó que se necesitaba una mascota más apropiada para la edad y que se alineara con los valores fundamentales de Goose Creek CISD. Se pidió al personal y a las familias de la Escuela Primaria Ashbel Smith que completaran una encuesta sobre las nuevas opciones de mascotas y los Jaguares recibieron la mayoría de los votos.
