Giant Staff Member of the Month

Giant Staff Member of the Month for August 2023 is Emily Jane Patrick. Emily’s life has been all about her relationships with her students. A teacher at Robert E. Lee High School for nine years and IMPACT Early College High School for 10 years, Emily enjoyed the variety of courses, including English II, III and IV; College Prep English; Dual Credit Humanities, AP English Language; Read 180, Film Theory, AVID, she had the opportunity to share with her students through the years.

Always saying yes to helping Goose Creek students and teachers, Emily served as an AVID site team member, senior class sponsor, National Honor Society sponsor, Book Club sponsor, and Prom coordinator as well as a member of the curriculum committee, volunteer for the Fred Aguilar Promise Center and much more. Selected by her peers as Campus Teacher of the Year in 2016 and 2022, Emily was honored as District Secondary Teacher of the Year in 2016.

Emily lost her life this summer after a courageous battle with cancer, but her memory will live on in the students and staff she inspired. Her celebration of life, where hundreds of students and colleagues gathered to honor her memory, was a testament to her influence as an educator. One of her last requests was that the diverse classroom library she funded herself and through grants, be donated to IMPACT Early College High School for the students.
