Ian Owens
Giant Staff Member of the Month
Our Giant Staff Member of the Month for August 2025 is Ian Owens, Special Education Teacher at Robert E. Lee High School.
Mr. Owens represents the very best of what it means to be an educator—going far beyond academics to shape the lives of his students with patience, compassion, and unwavering belief in their potential. His impact is perhaps best reflected through the words of one of his students, who credits Mr. Owens with playing a life-changing role in his journey.
That student, a top ten graduate, shared how Mr. Owens helped him overcome the challenges of Autism Spectrum Disorder and the effects of a brain injury, guiding him through English—his hardest subject—and helping him grow in comprehension, writing, and communication. “The fact I wrote my own speech shows how much of an excellent teacher Mr. Owens has been,” the student proudly shared.
But Mr. Owens’ influence goes far beyond academics. He has provided social and emotional guidance, teaching his students respect, empathy, and practical ways to navigate life. Whether co-teaching, serving as a case manager, or simply being a trusted mentor, Mr. Owens shows up for his students in ways that build their confidence, independence, and sense of belonging.
Even in small moments—sharing a laugh or offering encouragement—Mr. Owens creates a safe, supportive environment where students feel understood. His ability to connect, adapt, and genuinely care makes him a remarkable representative of Goose Creek CISD’s Special Education Department and a true Giant in every sense.
