Baytown dealership gives away 2 cars
to students with perfect attendance
Renewing its four-year partnership with Goose Creek CISD, the owners of Community Toyota/Community Kia of Baytown gave away two new cars to students with perfect attendance.
During halftime of the Lee vs. Sterling football game, Lee junior Mary Rambadadt won a 2009 Kia Rio. A few miles down the road at the Goose Creek Memorial-Barbers Hill game, Goose Creek Memorial senior Karla Arellano won a 2010 Scion Xd.
“Kim and I would like to congratulate all of the eligible students for their accomplishment. Karla Arellano and Mary Rambadadt came and picked up their vehicles yesterday and were very excited and grateful,” said Roger Elswick of Community Toyota/Community Kia. “We feel very fortunate and blessed to be able to support the students for their accomplishment.”
Since 2006, Roger and Kim Elswick, owners of the Community Toyota/Community Kia dealerships, have recognized the efforts of Goose Creek CISD juniors and seniors who had perfect attendance over the preceding year. These students are entered in a drawing for a new car. This year, the Elswicks added a second drawing for a free car for Goose Creek Memorial High School and Barbers Hill High School juniors and seniors who had perfect attendance over the preceding year.
Lee junior Mary Rambadadt won a 2009 Kia Rio, now she has to get a driver’s license.
“I prayed a lot,” Mary said after winning. “It’s God’s blessing to now have a car.”
Until Monday, Karla did not have a car and is currently working on getting a driver’s license.
Karla said it took a moment for it to sink in after her name was called in the car giveaway. But after jumping up and down, and hugging the Elswicks, reality sunk in. “I usually don’t have this kind of luck … I’m speechless and very happy,” she said afterward.
Goose Creek Superintendent of Schools Dr. Toby York said the students and everyone in school district looks forward each year to the annual car giveaway.
“We greatly appreciate the support of Community Toyota/Community Kia and their generous contributions,” York said.
