It’s Texas Public Schools Week is March 5-9
Goose Creek CISD is inviting parents of school children to come visit in observance of Texas Public Schools Week, March 5-9.
The Masonic Lodges of Texas established Texas Public Schools Week in the 1950s to recognize the contributions made by the state’s free system of education.
Attached is a list highlighting some of the Texas Public Schools Week events to be held on Goose Creek CISD campuses the week of March 5-9.
Lorenzo De Zavala Elementary
Wednesday – Parents are invited to lunch with their students.
Thursday – Parents are invited to attend PE/Art/Music with their students; and March Madness Family Night from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
George Washington Carver Elementary
Thursday – Academic Family Night from 6 to 7 p.m.
Bonnie P. Hopper Primary
Tuesday – Pre-K a.m. parents are invited to eat breakfast with their child and purchase books at Book Fair; and Pre-K p.m. parents are invited to eat lunch with their child and also attend the Book Fair; and Read with Me!
Pre-K parents are invited to join them for story time:

Mirabeau B. Lamar Elementary
Tuesday – Parents are invited to join Michelle from Michelle C Fitness during P.E. time with your child:
Kinder 11:40 - 12:25 p.m.
1st Grade 12:30 - 1:15 p.m.
2nd Grade 1:20 - 2:05 p.m.
3rd Grade 9:25 - 10:10 a.m.
4th Grade 8:35 - 9:20 a.m.
5th Grade 7:45 - 8:30 a.m.
(Younger siblings are not allowed to attend the classes.)
Wednesday – Parents are invited to walk to school with your child.
Thursday – Muffins with Moms in the Library from 7 to 7:35 a.m. All students must have a parent or guardian to join in the fun. Younger siblings are not allowed to attend.
Friday – Donuts with Dads in the library from 7 to 7:35 a.m. All students must have a parent or guardian to join in the fun. This event is only for Lamar students.
Alamo Elementary
Tuesday – The Student Council will greet car riders with a special morning treat!; and Pre-kindergarten story time for some songs and treats during PK story time at 9:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m.
Thursday – STAAR training for third, fourth and fifth grade parents to discuss the STAAR test and the strategies students use to master the objectives.
Friday – Follow the rainbow and find the pot of gold during lunch at Alamo with your child.
Victoria Walker Elementary
Friday – Parents are invited to join your child’s scheduled P.E. time for a “Wildcat Cardio Walk” at the following times:
Kinder 8:30-9:15
1st 9:20-10:05
2nd 10:10-10:55
3rd 12:30-1:15
4th 1:20-2:05
5th 2:10-2:55
Also, parents are always welcome to eat lunch with their child.
• San Jacinto Elementary
Monday through Friday – Parents are invited to come and eat lunch with their student.
Monday, Wednesday and Friday – Parents are invited to visit their child’s classroom and go to PE with their child.
James Bowie Elementary
Monday – Lunch with your child: PK from noon to 12:30 and fifth grade from 1 to 1:30.
Tuesday – Lunch with your child: Second grade from 11:30 to noon and fourth grade from 12:30 to 1.
Thursday – Lunch with your child: First grade from 11 to 11:30 and third grade from noon to 12:30.
Also, San Jacinto Methodist Hospital, Bayer, and American Heart Association volunteers will help build the new Teaching Garden.
Friday – Lunch with your child: Kindergarten from 10:30 to 11.
Also, students will help finish building the Teaching Garden, sponsored by San Jacinto Methodist Hospital and American Heart Association.
David Crockett Elementary
Monday – parents of fifth grade students are invited to visit classrooms from 10:15 to 10:45 and/or lunch from 10:45 to 11:15; and parents of fourth grade students are invited to visit classrooms from 11:05 to 11:35 and/or lunch from 11:35-12:05.
Tuesday – parents of third grade students are invited to visit classrooms from 10:35 to 11:05 and/or lunch from 11:05-11:35; and parents of second grade students are invited to visit classrooms from 11:25-11:55 and/or lunch from 11:55-12:25.
Wednesday – parents of Mrs. Gildersleeve’s students are invited to visit the classroom and lunch from 11 to noon; and parents of first grade students are invited to visit classrooms from 11:40 to 12:10 and/or lunch from 12:10 to 12:40.
Thursday – parents of kindergarten students are invited to visit classrooms from noon to 12:30 and/or lunch from 12:30 to 1; parents of morning Pre-K students and Ms. Langhorne’s students are invited to breakfast from 8:05 to 8:30 and/or visit classrooms from 8:30 to 9; and parents of afternoon Pre-K students are invited to visit classrooms from 12:30 to 12:45 and/or lunch from 12:45 to 1:15.
Ashbel Smith Elementary
Tuesday – Lunch with parents during second, kindergarten, PK-pm, and fourth grade lunch schedules; and Family Library Night from 6 to 7 p.m.
Wednesday – Lunch with parents during first, third, and fifth grade lunch schedules.
Stephen F. Austin Elementary
Friday – Parents have lunch with child.
William B. Travis Elementary
Tuesday – Parents play in P.E. for P.E groups B, C, and E. (Kindergarten from 9 to 9:50, first grade from 9:50 to 10:35, second grade from 10:50 to 11:35, third grade from 1:40 to 2:25, fourth grade from 12:50 to 1:35, and fifth grade from 2:35 to 3:20.)
Thursday – Parents play in P.E. for P.E groups A and D. (Kindergarten from 9 to 9:50, first grade from 9:50 to 10:35, second grade from 10:50 to 11:35, third grade from 1:40 to 2:25, fourth grade from 12:50 to 1:35, and fifth grade from 2:35 to 3:20.)
Friday – Pre-kindergarten parents are invited to visit the library with their child during library time. (Pre-K a.m. from 10:50 to 11:15 and Pre-K p.m. from 2:30 to 3.)
Baytown Junior School
This year, it’s all 80s all week.
Monday – “The Power Is Yours!” Be an advocate for Texas public schools. FIC and counselors will hand out advocacy information to students.
Tuesday – “Our Community Rocks!” Community members will help out during afterschool tutorials.
Thursday – ‘Come On Down!” Parents are invited to eat lunch and attend classes with their child.
Friday – “Wouldn’t Be Prudent!” Students encouraged to dress up in favorite 80s wear.
