Goose Creek CISD Reveals Band Trailers

When Dr. Anthony Price, chief operations officer, saw another district’s band trailer, he decided to research what it would take to get one for each of the three high schools in Goose Creek CISD with a band program.

“I challenged Dr. Price to find three trailers for the price of one, and he did just that,” said Dr. Randal O’Brien, Goose Creek CISD superintendent.

After researching the trucks and trailers, Price and his team located three that could be refurbished to fit the needs of the band programs. The trailers were wrapped to proudly show off the schools’ names and colors and outfitted to safely hold the band instruments. In the past, the district rented trucks and trailers when they had to transport the instruments.

Beacon Federal Credit Union supported the cause with a 10-year contract at $6,000 per year, giving BFCU advertisement space on the back of each trailer.

“This will revolutionize how we travel,” said Dr. Stefan Ice, assistant band director at Robert E. Lee High School. “It will keep the instruments safe and the students safe, since there are lights throughout so they won’t hurt themselves when taking instruments out or putting them up. This is more efficient, since when we get to a site, we can open the doors and get everything off in a timely manner.”

The trailers were revealed in the San Jacinto Mall parking lot July 30 for a small group, including band directors, drum majors and/or officers and some Central Administration staff. Susan Chiboroski, director of fine arts, thanked the district and everyone involved for giving the band programs this opportunity.

“The refurbished trailers look brand new, and they exceeded our expectations,” Price said. “We are happy to be able to meet the needs of the students in these band programs.”
