Goose Creek CISD held a naming ceremony in honor of famed Sterling High School volleyball coach Nadine Horne on September 30th in the girls’ gym. The packed crowd of family members, former colleagues, players and friends showed up in large number to support the woman that made a major difference in their lives.

Coach Horne coached volleyball at Sterling High School for 30 years; 25 as head coach. During that time, her teams went to the playoffs 23 times. She also went to the regional quarterfinals in 2003. She retired in 2016 and passed away in February 2022.

It was four of her former student athletes, Tiffany Jack, Keri Kruger, Peri Sutton and Amanda Walt, that urged the Board to name the gym after their beloved Coach Horne, during a May 2022 meeting.

“Coach Horne left a legacy for the volleyball program, school and community, as it continues to thrive today,” Jack said. “All coaches should follow her example and impact the lives of student athletes just as she did.”

Mayor Brandon Capetillo read a proclamation on behalf of the City of Baytown and a plaque was placed prominently on the wall of the gym.
